We made our own snack this morning! Miss Bates had been shopping to Asda (we knew that because we saw it on the carrier bag!) and bought a loaf of bread and a jar of jam.
So we made a jam butty each to have with our milk.
They were delicious!

We went to Tom’s Space and took some friends with us to share a ‘picnic.’ We had to do lots of counting and problem solving to help sort out the picnic.
There were 8 friends altogether. Ellis counted to check that there were enough plates for them to have one each.
William was in charge of making sure there were enough bowls for them all.
We kept stopping and were able to talk about how many more plates we had, how many friends did’nt have a bowl and other questions. We were very good at using lots of different mathematical language.
We also gave the friends some ‘food’ to eat. Making sure they had the number of things they had asked for and taking things away if they did’nt have the right number.
Can you set up a picnic for your toys at home?

We started to look at the patterns on our clothes – some of us had stripes, some had spots and some had squares which we found out are called checks.
Then someone spotted that we had patterns on the bottom of our shoes!
There were lots of interesting shapes, patterns, lines and even pictures.
BUT it was a little tricky trying to look underneath our shoes while we were still on our feet!
So we headed off outside and stepped in some shallow trays of water, then we walked around the yard making footprints!
Some of the patterns showed up really well.
Can you find anymore patterns, out and about?

Foundation Stagw one was buzzing with maths brain.
Sally and Elly May were sorting and calculating with bears that they found in the sand tray, Miss Rowlandson was having a picnic and sharing fairly with her group, Mrs Brislen was on a number hunt with her group outside finding lots of numbers 1,2 and 3.
They also collected treasures in their number bags. Mrs Atkinson and Harry got very messy again in the shaving foam and Miss Atherton was asking Sally lots of interesting questions. “There are 6 teddies altogether” said Sally after counting 2 groups of bears.
“We have to make sure we share, it’s fair” Jamie said as he gave everybody 2 strawberries.
Next we are going to play a ‘more than’ game outside, lets hope the weather’s a bit warmer!

In Tom’s Space this afternoon we heard the story about Mrs Rainbow’s colourful house. We found out that she had to paint it grey because it was too colourful. We acted out the story with finger puppets.
“I’m Mrs Rainbow” Said Macy
“You need to paint your house again” said Clara
We are remembering our colours really well – especially Shea and Patrick who told me all the colours in the rainbow.

We set up a game outside – in between the rain showers – using some different sized containers.
We had to see if we could throw the bean bags into the different containers.
Some people were standing too close so we thought about putting a rope across so that you had to stand behind the rope and then throw.
At first it was tricky to get the bean bag into the smallest container but we kept on trying and did it in the end!
Could you try setting up a game like this at home?

It was time for our caterpillars to move house! About 3 weeks ago we put little tiny caterpillars into special containers with food inside.
But now the caterpillars have changed. They have made a little house of their own called a coccoon and are now too big to stay in the containers.
we had to very carefully take the coccoons from the containers and put them onto a piece of card. This has gone into a big net – ready for when the caterpillars turn into butterflies.
“Butterflies are beautiful” Said Laylaa
“I saw a butterfly in the garden” said Joe
“The food smells!” said Ellis
“Glad we don’t eat it!” said Isabella

The sun was out (just for a little while!) so we were able to make our pirate ship outside.
“Let’s make a big one!” said Joshua.
“Its bigger than the other ship” said Jamie.
Don’t you think our pirate ship is wonderful?
Not only have we been building boats but we have been getting very sticky in some gloop.
“Eeee it’s all slimy and cold” said Lillie.
“It’s like slime” said Ben.
Ellis decided we could make monster juice from the gloop.
To make our day even busier we also did some biscuit counting.
We used green monster icing as glue to stick on different numbers of raisins.
Can you count how many raisins we used?

This morning we read a pirate story and this afternoon our story was about a castle.
This gave us some great ideas. We used the wooden construction blocks to make an enormous pirate ship on our carpet.
We made a sail, an anchor and there was plenty of space for us all to get in.
There were nasty pirates in our story but we were kind pirates who helped eachother to build our ship.
Next time we are going to build an even bigger pirate ship outside.
Lets hope nobody has to walk the plank.

On Thursday 3rd May the Foundation Stage was closed because it was Polling Day – so we set off for a trip to the park instead. Some of us went in the morning and some of us went in the afternoon – our teachers all went twice! each group of children did the same thing though!
We went to the park on a big coach and it didn’t take us very long to get there. we walked down a very long road and found a picnic bench where we stopped to have a little snack.
Next we headed to the pond to give the ducks their breakfast or their lunch depending on what time of day it was. They always seemed to be hungry! As well as ducks there were some noisy geese and hungry pigeons.
Then we had another long walk to see if we could find any fish in the fishpond. There were two big ones swimming around but they were a little tricky to see in the murky water.
We went into a special garden called “The Japanese Garden” and took turns to very carefully go across the stepping stones. Hiding in the water we spotted some tadpoles these will grow into frogs.
After everyone was safely across the water we went and had a turn on the playground. We had lots of fun on the slides, swings, roundabout and climbing frame.
Before we knew it – it was time to head back to school. We had a fabulous time!
